Gavin and Stacey To Return For Christmas Day Finale

Hit BBC series Gavin and Stacey will return for its last ever episode on Christmas Day, it has been confirmed.

The popular sitcom which is based around a couple who commit to a long distance relationship last aired on Christmas Day 2019 for a one off episode which ended on a cliffhanger.

Gavin and Stacey which ran for three series from 2007-2010, starred Mathew Horne and Joanna Page as the titular characters in a long distance relationship, which was pursued across Essex and Wales.

The one off episode in 2019 saw Smithy played by James Corden and Nessa (Ruth Jones) whose characters had a on-off relationship end on a cliffhanger, as she proposed to him. 

Previously, comedian Ruth Jones had quashed rumours of a return for Gavin and Stacey, calling it "sadly just a rumour" in previous interviews, while comedian Rob Brydon who plays Uncle Bryn in the show, having also denied such rumours.

However, taking to Instagram, James Corden has now shared an image of him and fellow creator Ruth Jones and a 2024 script titled: "Gavin and Stacey: The finale". 

"Some news… It's official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James", the comedian wrote. 

On this, the BBC also added, "We’ll have: A chicken bhuna, lamb bhuna, prawn bhuna, mushroom rice, bag of chips, keema naan, nine poppadoms and the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey!!!".
