Weather Alert Heavy Rain

The 19-hour long alert will see heavy rain in The Rebel County

Met Éireann has this morning issued a Status Yellow rain warning for Cork as the Rebel County is set to start the coming week off with a battering of heavy rain.

The national forecaster was warned Leesiders to expect "heavy and persistent rain at times" throughout the 19-hour long weather alert.

The warning comes into effect at 3pm tomorrow, Monday, August 26 and will remain in place until 10am on Tuesday morning.

Met Éireann has said that potential impacts of the weather alert include localised flooding, difficult travel conditions and impact on planned outdoor events.

The Status Yellow rain warning is also in effect for Kerry, Donegal, Leitrim, Galway and Mayo as Ireland's west coast is set to face the brunt of the bad weather.

The warning comes off the back of a very unsettled forecast over the next week which will see Cork hit with lashings of rain followed by highs of 23C just a week later.

The news comes just days after Ireland held the brunt of Storm Lilian which saw heavy downpours across the country with localised flooding in some parts of Cork.
