Thirteen food businesses were shut down last month, raising serious concerns over food safety standards, according to the Food Safety Authority (FSAI).

The closures followed alarming discoveries, including a live rat in a food storage room, a dead rat in a kitchen, and a widespread cockroach infestation in a cold unit storing uncovered food.

The FSAI noted the surge in closure orders in September as highly concerning. Nine of the closure orders were issued under the FSAI Act 1998, and four under the EU Regulations 2020.

The affected businesses are located in Cork, Dublin, and Tipperary.

Businesses closed under the FSAI Act, 1998:

  1. Glens Takeaway and Diner, Cork
  2. Grace’s Garden, Shankhill, Co. Dublin
  3. Koffee and Kale, Dublin 1
  4. Spar (Deli area only), Dolphins Barn, Dublin 8
  5. Kimex Ireland Limited, Inchicore, Dublin 8
  6. Osteria 99 Italian Cuisine, Monkstown, Co. Dublin
  7. Polonez, Walkinstown, Dublin 12
  8. Café Sol, Foxrock, Dublin 18
  9. That’s Amore, Monkstown, Co. Dublin

Businesses closed under the EU Regulations 2020:

  1. Antonio’s, Dublin 3
  2. Red Robin Takeaway, Killenaule, Tipperary
  3. The Lord Lucan Pub, Lucan, Co. Dublin
  4. Coolmine Shawarma & Grilled (Storage and raw meat preparation), Blanchardstown, Dublin 15

The FSAI emphasised the importance of strict hygiene practices and urged businesses to prioritize the health and safety of consumers.
