Heartbroken Family Of Young Boy Pray He Will 'Fly With The Angels' As Gardaí Wait to Question Suspect

The devastated family of six year old boy Matthew Healy have said that they are praying that that he will "fly with the angels".

The young boy was found unresponsive outside Dunmore East, Co Waterford in the early hours of Friday evening. His death is being treated as suspicious, as he is believed to have died in an asphyxia-related incident.

Gardaí have confirmed that they are awaiting medical clearance to question a 38 year old woman, who arrested at the scene. The young boy was lying in the backseat of a parked Renault car on a laneway heading towards Rathmoylan Cove. 

The young boy's cause of death will be determined by the post-mortem findings, with the preliminary results inconclusive. 

Special tributes have been played to Matthew Healy, whose funeral details were confirmed. It will take place at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Watergrasshill, Co Cork at noon tomorrow.

The young boy is reposing at the home of his father James in Watergrasshill, with mourners attending from 5pm to 8pm yesterday evening, while mourners will also be able to attend from 5pm to 8pm tonight.

Matthew Healy's death notice has said that he will be missed by heartbroken father James, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family, along with friends and neighbours.

"Fly with the angels", Mr Healy said, while requesting for privacy at this time. 

A private ceremony will take place at the Island Crematorium in Ringaskiddy, following the requiem mass, with Matthew's family asking that mourners donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, instead of sending flowers.

A special vigil in Waterford City Centre was organised by the Bishop of Waterford and Lismore, Dr Alphonsus Cullinan, with Mattews' death sending shockwaves across both the Cork and Waterford communities.

The Department of Education have provided full counselling support at Faithlegg National School for students, teachers and parents who have been affected by this tragic event. Matthew was a senior infants pupil at the school.

The school's principal Kieran O'Sullivan as a "beloved member" of the school community. 

Matthew Healy was also an adored member of the local football club Park Rangers, where he played under 7s football. 

“Matthew was a member of our U-7 squad and will be sadly missed by his teammates and coaches. Our thoughts are with his loved one at this unimaginably difficult time", a spokesperson for the club said. 

As a mark of respect, all matches concerning the football club were cancelled over the weekend.
