A housing estate in Carlow was cordoned off after the discovery of a man's body as gardai urge witnesses to come forward.

An investigation is underway after a man was found with severe injuries at a house in Carlow, before he later died from his injuries. A woman was arrested after the 30-year-old was found at a house in Carlow Town on Monday night.

Gardaí responded to an incident at a house in the New Oak Estate around 11:40pm last night. There they found an unresponsive man with serious injuries.

He was treated by emergency services at the scene before being brought to St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny, where he was pronounced dead. Gardaí and the Armed Response Unit later arrested a woman in Carlow Town a short time later.

She is currently being held at a Garda station in the county. The scene is preserved, pending a technical exam - and two officers are currently patrolling the area.  The local coroner, the Garda Technical Bureau, and The State Pathologist have all been notified.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, and anyone with camera footage, including dashcam recordings, to come forward. Local Fine Gael councillor Fergal Browne outlined his shock at hearing the news.

''There's a deep sense of shock in Carlow town this morning when we heard the news that a young man lost his life, and I want to extend my sympathies to his family and his friends and thank the emergency services for their work last night and this morning and we think of alll the families involved at this very sad time.''
