Strictly come dancing contestant Zara Mc Dermott has released a statement regarding the allegations of gross misconduct from her professional partner Graziano Di Prima.

McDermott, a former Love Island contestant, took to Instagram today to share her experience on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. "I felt it was right that I post something regarding the recent media reports,"

The 27-year-old shared that she “wrestled with the fear of opening up” and was worried about the possible “public backlash” and “victim shaming” she would face.

McDermott expressed her long-time love for the show and said she had a wonderful time competing, “However my experience inside the training room was very different.”

Footage of particular incidents with Graziano was “incredibly distressing to watch” the star added.

"The culture within our society makes it difficult to speak up, especially in a world where social media opinions and voices are so loud. This is something I've seen through working with countless women on my documentaries." McDermott writes.

She concludes her statement by thanking the BBC for their “swift action and incredibly high levels of support,”

Her statement comes after the BBC confirmed that Di Prima would no longer be a part of future Strictly seasons due to the allegations of abuse.

In his own statement posted on Instagram, McDermott's former dance partner wrote "I deeply regret the events that led to my departure from Strictly. My intense passion and determination to win might have affected my training regime.”

"While there are aspects of this story involving external influences that I can't discuss at this time, I remain committed to being strong for my family and friends.” Di Prima said. "I also want to thank everyone who has supported my career, both professionally and personally. When the time is right, I will share my story."
