Warning issued over "Scam Taxis"

AIB has urged customers to be vigilant after an increase in so-called 'taxi scams'.

It's when customers are visited by a taxi driver or a courier supposedly sent by the bank to collect their bank cards. AIB says this particular scam follows a similar pattern.

Customers get a fraudulent text claiming to be from the bank, a utility company or other businesses containing a link to click.

They provide details, and then get a follow up call claiming to be from the bank and told their card is compromised.

A taxi driver or courier arrives to collect the card, and people are sometimes asked to leave it under the mat for collection. The stolen card is then used to ATM withdrawals or payment fraud.

AIB says it will never ask customers to hand over a bank card of their details, after it says it has seen a rise in the number of scams.

They're telling customers to keep the phrase 'don't click on their link' in their minds, and to end any conversation where they're asked to hand over a card or leave it under the mat for collection.
