Latest in a series of seizures including separate €2.1m and €2.5m hauls at Rosslare port in 24 hours

Gardaí in Limerick have seized 1 kilogram of suspected cocaine with an street value of around 70 thousand euro.

The discovery was made during the search of a residence and an open ground area in south Limerick City on Thursday.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.

It's been a very big week for Gardai interdicting the drugs trade in Munster with a third major bust disclosed - that happened less than 24-hours before a huge seizure at Rosslare Europort on Friday and just hours after another €2.1m at the same port on Thursday morning.

It is not known if the three events are connected, but Gardai have confirmed this Saturday lunchtime that on Thursday afternoon, as part of an intelligence-led operation, teams conducted the search of a residence and an open ground area in south Limerick city on Thursday.

The scale of the seizures made in less than 48 hours in the south, cocaine worth over €4.6m, shows the vast amounts of money being made in the trade here in Ireland.

A Garda spokesperson said: "During the course of the search operation, approximately 1kg of suspected cocaine was seized by Gardaí. The estimated value of drugs seized is €70,000. All drugs are now subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland (FSI)."

On the morning after the raid in Limerick, Revenue Officers made a major find at Rosslare Europort, a €2.5m shipment of cocaine being brought into the country. A man was arrested and will be charged in court later today.

The man, aged in his 50s, is due to appear before a special sitting of Kilkenny District Court this evening at around 5pm and investigations are still ongoing.

There was another major seizure at Rosslare on Thursday morning when, as part of a joint operation involving the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), Wexford Divisional Drugs Unit and Revenue Customs Service, a consignment of approximately 30kgs of cocaine with an estimated value of €2.1 million was seized in Rosslare
