The deal puts an end to months of speculation surrounding O'Mahony's future, with reports suggesting that he could lose his contract with the IRFU. However, O'Mahony has signed a contract, agreeing to play for the province into next season.

This will be undoubtedly prove to be a huge relief to Munster and Ireland alike, with Peter O'Mahony still such a talismanic figure for both club and country.

Since making his debut for Munster in 2010, Peter O'Mahony has won two league titles with Munster and five Six Nations with Ireland. He was named captain of Munster in 2013, before stepping down last year. He was one of their longest serving skippers.

Last year, Peter O'Mahony was named Ireland captain by manager Andy Farrell, going on to lead his country to recent Six Nations title.

Thus far, the Cork Con man has made 291 professional rugby appearances, including 182 for Munster, 105 for Ireland, and 4 for the British and Irish Lions. He was also named Munster's Player of the Year in 2019.
