59-year-old Tadg O'Sullivan and his sons Diarmuid (23) and Mark (26) all died at a farmhouse at Assolas outside Kanturk on October 26th. They are believed to have been the victims of a murder-suicide.
Diarmuid and Mark's mother Anne survived the incident but passed away earlier this year following a lengthy illness,
She ran to a neighbour's house after Mark had been killed early in the morning. Gardaí were alerted and armed units swooped on the farmhouse.
The bodies of Tadg and Diarmuid were found close to an ancient ringfort near the family home. They had both been killed by gunshots.
Gardaí discovered a letter that detailed the events leading to the tragedy. A feud is believed to have ignited when Anne said she would be leaving the majority of her inherited farmland to her son Mark.
Separate funerals were held for the victims. Tadg and Diarmuid were buried in Castlemagner while Mark was buried in Kanturk. Anne only attended Mark's funeral.
The inquest opens at Mallow courthouse today.
