A murder investigation into the death of a 31-year-old woman in Mallow following the results of a post-mortem examination has now begun.
Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster has confirmed that mother of two Paula Canty, originally from Kinsale died due to foul play.
Investigators have not released the results of the post-mortem, but it's being reported that the victim had been stabbed in the chest.
The body of the woman was found in her apartment at the Belfry on Bridewell Lane at around midday on Friday after gardaí had been alerted to an incident.
The apartment remains sealed off after an examination over the weekend. A second property nearby has also been sealed off for a technical examination.
An incident room has been set up at Mallow Garda Station and a senior officer has been appointed to head up the investigation.
Gardaí have renewed appeals for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam or mobile footage from Bridewell Lane in Mallow between 9pm on Thursday and 10am,Friday morning to come forward.
