Severe flooding, 60,000 Without Power, Transport Delays Amid Storm Bert

Storm Bert made landfall overnight

Severe flooding has occurred in a number of counties, including Cork, Galway, Donegal and Kerry. Trees have fallen in several places too.

Motorists have been urged to take extra care and avoid unnecessary travel.

ESB crews are currently out, assessing damage, with tens of thousands of homes without power in key areas across the country.

A spokesperson for the company says they are making repairs where it's safe to do so.

An estimated 60-thousand homes and businesses are without power due to Storm Bert.

The worst-impacted counties include Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Galway, Cavan, Monaghan, Kerry and Cork.

Meanwhile there has been some impact on early morning rail services, according to Iarnród Éireann

All dart and suburban rail services are running as normal.

Bus Éireann has cancelled some services in western parts of the country, while advising all travellers to plan journeys in advance and expect delays.

A number of train services are also experiencing delays.

Transport for Ireland has advised people to check the status of specific transport operators before setting off.

“Please check with your transport operator before travelling as there may be delays or curtailments due to adverse weather conditions. Some services will be travelling at reduced speeds in the interests of safety,” TFI said in a statement.

Donegal is under a Status Yellow Snow, Ice, Rain and Wind warning as storm Bert brings disruption across the country.

Status RED rain warnings have been in place overnight In Cork and Galway - with Status ORANGE Rain warnings for Waterford, Kerry, Clare, Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim - and Status YELLOW wind and rain warnings for Leinster, Munster, Connacht, Cavan and Monaghan.

These are now beginning to ease - for a time - however new alerts warn of winds picking up again this evening.
