Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow Rain warning for Kerry, valid until midday on Wednesday.  This band of rain will then move further across the island.

The UK Met Office has also issued a Yellow Rain warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry from 9pm tonight, to 9am Wednesday. This is likely to result in transport disruption.

The current rainfall is separate to Storm Ciarán, which will impact the country from tomorrow night.

Meteorologist with Met Éireann Gerry Murphy said:

“The rain warning for Kerry is for a band of rain that will push up over Ireland this afternoon and this evening. That’s going to bring some heavy enough falls to places and some spot flooding, especially in the southwest, but it’s not directly associated with Storm Ciarán.

“It’s really going to bring its stormiest conditions to the south of England and the northwest of France. For Ireland, what’s going to happen is, it’s going to push rain up over us on Wednesday night into Thursday.”

Storm Ciarán:

Starting tomorrow evening, the national forecaster has issued a Yellow Rain alert for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork and Waterford.

The warning takes effect from 7pm Wednesday to 7am Thursday.

This may result in saturated ground conditions and high river levels, leading to flooding.

Clare, Kerry and Galway have been issued a Status Yellow Wind warning, valid from 5am Wednesday to 11am Wednesday.

Strong and gusty westerly winds in these regions, accompanied by squally showers, may result in difficult travelling conditions and wave overtopping.

As Storm Ciarán hits the east of Northern Ireland, a Yellow Rain warning for Antrim, Armagh and Down will run from 6am Thursday until midnight on Thursday.
