Counties Cork, Kerry, Waterford, and Wexford are currently under status yellow warnings for rain.
In Cork and Kerry, the alert expires at noon. In Waterford and Wexford the warning remains in place until 3pm.
Met Éireann has warned that the heavy rainfall may lead to localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions in these areas.
Carlow, Cork, Kerry, Kilkenny, Tipperary, and Waterford have been issued with a status yellow thunderstorm warning. Scattered thunderstorms and potential lightning strikes are expected.
This alert is in place until 12pm.
The north and northwest will be dry and can expect sunny spells.
Elsewhere, in southern parts of the country, the outbreaks of rain, thunder and lightning should clear later in the afternoon.
