Worrying Rise In Homeless Figures

The number of homeless children in Ireland has risen to 4,401.

That is according to the Department of Housing’s latest figures for July.

This alarming statistic contributes to a record high of 14,429 people currently in emergency accommodation across the country.

The report also highlights that 2,096 families are experiencing homelessness, marking an increase of 257 compared to last year.

Dublin continues to bear the brunt of the crisis, with nearly 10,500 men, women, and children without a permanent home.

These figures do not account for those sleeping rough, couch surfing, or those in hospitals, prisons, asylum seeker shelters, or domestic violence centres.

In Cork City and County, 553 adults and 183 children are identified as homeless.

Of the total adults affected, 54% are Irish, 22% are from the EU or UK, and 24% are from non-EU countries.
