The singer passed away following a long illness, having been placed in palliative care back in January.  Christy Dignam was diagnosed with a blood condition known as Amyloidosis back in 2013.

Having started playing music in the late 1970s in Finglas, Christy Dignam later formed the band Aslan, alongside Billy McGuinness, Joe Jewell, and Alan Downey.

The band's debut album 'Feel No Shame' reached number one in the Irish Charts following its release in 1986.

However, Dignam left the band before they released their second album, having struggled with a drug addiction. The Dubliner had later stated that his addiction was a way of coping with the abuse that he suffered during his childhood.

Following a brief stint as one half of the musical duo Dignam and Goff, Christy Dignam returned to Aslan, where they subsequently released one of their synonymous hits 'Crazy World'.
