While this morning is to remain mostly dry, with sunny spells, rain is expected to develop along the west, and southwest around noon, spreading eastwards during the afternoon and evening. The showers may turn heavy at times.

According to the national forecaster's meteorologist Liz Walsh, “the weather will be dominated by low pressure at the start of the week, so pretty unsettled, with spells of rain and showers early on".

Leinster and Ulster are to be mostly affected by the rain when it moves northeastwards during the night.

Temperatures are to stay between 7-11C, with freshening winds. When those winds clear, scattered showers are to follow. Moderate and fresh winds are expected, with temperatures set to drop to 3-7C.

After a largely dry morning, Tuesday afternoon is to see bright and sunny intervals, with temperatures rising to between 8 and 10 degrees, with light breezes.

On the rest of the week, Met Éireann added this, “Remaining unsettled with rain or showers early on. Less windy though and drier by mid-week".

“Wednesday will be mainly dry with a fair amount of cloud and some sunny spells developing. Highest temperatures of 7 to 9 degrees with light variable breezes. Wednesday night will start off be cold and dry with clear spells and with frost in some eastern areas. Rain will develop in the west and will spread eastwards overnight. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees".

Cloudy conditions are expected for Thursday, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading eastwards during the day, with temperatures expected to stay between 9 and 11 degrees, with mainly light winds.
