Christy Dignam passed away yesterday aged 63 following a long battle with a rare blood condition, which he was diagnosed with in 2013. He spent the last few months in the care of his family, having been placed under palliative care in January.
Dignam's funeral will take place this Saturday (June 17), with a private funeral service preceding a farwell gathering on Farnham Drive, Finglas.
Arriving at the junction of Tolka Valley Road, and Cardiffsbridge Road at 9.45am, the funeral cortege will then embark on the following route.
Dublin's Lord Mayor Caroline paid tribute to Dignam as she opened a book of condolense.
“On behalf of the citizens of Dublin I wish to express my deepest condolences to the family of Christy Dignam. For many Dubliners Christy was the voice of their city. His memory will live on in Aslan’s music, which I have no doubt will continue to be enjoyed for many years to come. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam", she said.
