The jury in the inquests of 48 young people who perished in a Dublin nightclub fire, has returned a verdict of unlawful killing for each of the victims.

Loud cheers rang around the pillar room at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin as the verdict into the deaths of those killed in the Stardust Nightclub were read.

These inquests, the largest in the history of the state has come 43 years after the blaze at a valentines night ball in the Artane venue.

Before the verdicts were read out, the medical cause of death and location of death was read out loud alphabetically. The victims died from a mix of smoke inhalation, fire fumes and burns.

The fire was started in the hot-press of the dispense bar and it was an electrical fault.

The jury says exit doors were locked, chained or obstructed, which impeded people from escaping the venue.
