Making his debut as host of the long-running talk show on September 15, Patrick Kielty's opening night saw 830,000 people tune in. However, the shows in subsequent weeks have seen a major drop in viewership figures.

Kielty's second show, saw 548,000 viewers tune in, a drop of 33%. The following week, 486,000 people tuned into the show, according to these figures released by RTÉ.

Despite a temporary reprieve on October 6, when 548,000 people watched Kielty don a pair of cowboy boots and hat, last Friday's edition of the Late Late Show showed a 54% drop from the Down comedian's opening night, as 455,000 viewers tuned in to watch.

A spokesperson for the national broadcaster has insisted that the Late Late Show remains “most watched programme on Friday nights” as it was watched by an average audience of 455,000 on Friday.
