The crew members were aboard a 6.5 metre rigid inflatable boat which ran aground at approximately 10pm at Ballyvaughan Bay.

Both the engine and propeller of the boat were damaged. The crew called the Coast Guard for help, who in turn alerted Galway RNLI.

Roughly 20 minutes after receiving the alert, the volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew of Helm Brian Nilan, James Rhattigan, Dave McGrath and Cathal Bryne located the stricken boat and its crew.

None of the nine crew members, who were all wearing lifejackets, required medical assistance. The boat was towed in to Parkmore Pier near Kinvara.

Galway RNLI Deputy Launching Authority Seán Óg Leydon commended the actions of the boat's crew dropping anchor and alerting the Coast Guard.

"The crew of the vessel acted quickly by dropping anchor straight away and contacting the Irish Coast Guard," Leydon said in a statement.
