Planning permission has been granted for a new building at the school. The building will house six new classrooms with a total floor space of 550 square metres.
The new building will be constructed on part of the school's current car park and an area of grassland adjacent to the sports pitch.
Nine current parking spaces will be lost with the construction of the new building, and the council has insisted that they must be replaced along with the provision of nine new parking spaces.
As the school is in close proximity to two historic ringforts, an archaeological impact statement was required to be submitted with the planning application. According to the statement, "There is some potential for the project to have an impact on below ground archaeological features or deposits, although the construction of the car park, pitches and other elements of the school complex may already have caused extensive disturbance."
Taking this statement into account, the council have demanded that an archaeologist be allowed to assess the site before construction begins. They will monitor any sub-surface works.
