The man was the driver of a vehicle involved in a crash which claimed the life of a 20-year-old man while hospitalising another passenger with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred at approximately 1am on Saturday, August 21st on the R518 Askeaton to Rathkeale Road, Co. Limerick. The car left the road and struck a pole.

The driver was arrested at the scene and taken to Henry Street Garda station in Limerick city for questioning.

"The man arrested in relation to the fatal road traffic collision on the R518 Askeaton to Rathkeale Road, Co. Limerick has been released without charge," a garda spokesperson said on Monday morning.

Gardaí are now preparing a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The deceased, Myles Harty, of Askeaton, was due to be married to his fiancé Kate Quilligan on Saturday.

"I just want to give my condolences to Kate’s family and the deceased’s family," said Sinn Fein Councillor John Costelloe. "I know Kate and her mum Tina, and her father Connie, they are a very well-known and respected family here in Thomondgate; it’s an awful tragedy for them, a very difficult time."

Gardaí are asking for anyone who was travelling on the R518 at Cragmore Askeaton at the time of the incident who may have captured the crash on dash-cam to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Henry Street Garda Station on 01 8010600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
