A teenager has pleaded guilty to a savage assault on a homeless man that took place in 2022.
Limerick Circuit Criminal Court heard that the 15-year-old, who cannot be identified due to his age, was part of a group that subjected the 39-year-old victim to an unrelenting attack involving over 100 kicks and punches.
The court was presented with graphic CCTV footage capturing the group, surrounding the defenceless man and launching a prolonged attack.
In the disturbing footage, the victim can be heard crying out in pain, begging the attackers to stop.
The teenager admitted in court to hitting the man between 30 and 40 times, confessing that he also stole a pack of cigarettes from the victim.
Along with the juvenile, an adult suspect was arrested at the scene after a brief chase by Gardaí.
The teenager was remanded on bail due to a lack of available beds at Oberstown Children’s Detention Centre.
The judge has adjourned sentencing until November 4th.
