Ed Sheeran has shared details of a new direction he is embarking on regarding his music career.

The singer/songwriter has revealed plans to release a new album with a more Eurasian sound, having previously hinted at exploring death metal on a new record. He had previously teased that a new death metal with Cradle of Filth was on the horizon.

Sheeran will release a new single, 'Azizam', the lead single from his new album, 'Play', which will be release in May. This new sound has seen Sheeran work with producer, Ilya Salmanzadeh, who has previously worked with Ellie Goulding, Ariana Grande, and Sam Smith.

Sheeran has revealed that he has been focusing on Salmanzadeh's heritage as he heads in his new musical venture.

"I wrote Azizam after Ilya suggested trying out making music inspired by his Persian heritage and culture", Sheeran said. "I love learning about music and different cultures, the more I travel and connect with people. It was like opening a door to a new and exciting world".

The Galway Girl singer added: "I loved how a lot of rhythms, scales, melodies and instruments were different but similar to the Irish trad music I had grown up with. It was showing to me that music connects us all".

Earlier this year, Ed Sheeran broke his silence for the first time since being stopped by police while busking in India. Find out more on this here.
