The band members of Five have claimed that Simon Cowell has yet to respond to their message about reforming the group.
Five who comprise of Abz Love, Jason 'J' Brown, Sean Conlon, Ritchie Neville, and Scott Robinson, had announced plans to reunite for a major tour of the UK, including shows in Bournemouth, Cardiff, Nottingham, Liverpool, Manchester, London, Newcastle, Aberdeen and Glasgow. This tour kicks off on October 31.
The band also announced that they will head over across the water to perform in Belfast and Dublin in November. More on this here.
However, speaking to The Sun on Sunday's Biz on Sunday column, Ritchie Neville, has said that, after they announced their tour, the band got in touch with Simon Cowell, the man who put them together back in 1997, but has not replied to their message.
"Out of courtesy, we let him know that we were reforming — like, ‘Hey by the way?...'", Neville stated.
Scott Robinson added: "He hasn’t replied, but do you know what? He is a very, very busy man, so I’m sure he will at some point. If he wants to come to a show.?”.
Making references to Five's hit, 'If Ya Gettin Down', Neville said that Cowell: “can get on down! He was already a massive success, just not a famous one, when he signed us. We wish him well, he is doing his thing".
Despite this, Five have paid tribute to Simon Cowell, and his role in the band's early success.
"He was a huge part of what we did. He wasn’t the celebrity he is now, as Rich just said, but he was an incredible A R [talent scout]", Scott Robinson said. "He really helped us to formulate our albums, our sounds, chose the producers, the songwriters, put everything together and, you know, he did a great job".
Sean Conlon also commented: "All he needed was the first chorus. He would just put it on, get to the end of the first chorus then follow his gut instinct and work the rest out later — he just knew from there, and just turned it off".
