Stock Aitken & Waterman are to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their first number one track, which was Dead or Alive's, 'You Spin Me Round 'Like A Record)'.

The track hit top spot in the UK Singles Chart in March 1985, and was the maiden number one for producers Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman. Dead or Alive were fronted by the late singer Pete Burns.

This song's ascension to the number one spot, will pass 40 years in March, and the trio have said that they will celebrate this milestone by raising a glass or two together, "down the pub".

[We'll go] down the pub [and have] a couple of pints", Mike stated when asked about their celebration plans.

"get on with it"

Speaking about how they felt about the track reaching number one, Pete Waterman revealed that they did not dwell on this too much, as they were focused on working on more hits.

"To be honest, we just had to get on with it", Waterman said. "We were too busy. Number one, you’d stop for five minutes, have a glass of champagne, and get back to work".

"That’s what it was like".

Dead or Alive's track was the first of 13 UK number one singles for Stock, Aiken & Waterman in their career.

The business has changed

Stock Aitken & Waterman have also written songs for such household names including Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, as well as Mel & Kim.

Having been at their pinnacle in the 1980s, the producers have admitted that they might not be able to go back to their originally roots and make new songs for modern day musicians.

"I’m still writing songs and making records", Mike Stock said. "I don’t know, but for the three of us, the business has changed, so we can’t do now what we did then".

"stinkers"

While they have enjoyed so much success over the years, Mike Stock has admitted that they have also written some "stinkers" over the years.

"I’m not naming names", Mike Stock. "There were stinkers, and they didn’t make it into the charts, so that’s left unspoken about, I think!".

Despite making countless hits for so many famous artists over the years, it appears that Stock Aitken & Waterman are only remembered for giving the world Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan.

When asked if they find this annoying, Mike added: "I think people keep discovering them, you know, Bananarama, for example. There are loads of names, and they’re there for people to dig up at some point".

"We’re proud of what we did, so, perhaps, they’ll come back in fashion one day".

Peter Waterman on the other hand, said that he was not bothered about this.

"I don’t give a monkey's, as long as they remember us", Pete Waterman.
