Tributes have been paid to the late singer and actress Marianne Faithfull, who has died aged 78.
As a singer, Faithfull is renowned for hits including, As Tears Go By, which was written by Rolling Stones pair Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, a track which was also written during her teens.
Faithfull's death was confirmed, with a statement saying the following.
"It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of the singer, songwriter and actress Marianne Faithfull", it read. "Marianne passed away peacefully in London today, in the company of her loving family".
"She will be dearly missed".
Mairanne Faithfull released her debut album in 1965, and was known for being part of what was known as 'The Engflish Invasion', as several British stars enjoyed huge success in the US charts, including The Beatles.
Between 1966 and 1970, Faithfull was in a much publicised relationship with Mick Jagger. In 1967, the singer was famously found wearing nothing except for a rug, during a drugs bust at the country home of Rolling Stones' Keith Richards.
Following her break up with Jagger, Marianne Faithfull became addicted to heroin, spending the next two years on the streets of Soho, before living in a squat.
In 1979, Faithfull made a return, releasing her critically acclaimed album, 'Broken English', which has been widely regarded as her defining body of work.
Faithfull reinvented herself once again, when she released her album, 'Strange Weather' in 1987, in a decade which also saw her in rehab.
She also starred in films, including The Girl on a Motorcycle, as well as making guest appearances as God in the TV sitcom, Absolutely Fabulous.
Leading the tributes to Faithfull, Mick Jagger called the late singer, "a wonderful friend, a beautiful singer, and a great actress".
"I am so saddened to hear of the death of Marianne Faithfull. She was so much part of my life for so long", he wrote on social media. "She was a wonderful friend, a beautiful singer and a great actress. She will always be remembered".
Jagger's Rolling Stones bandmate Keith Richards said that he is "so sad" to have heard about Faithfull's death.
