Will Smith has released his new album, Based On A True Story, and makes references to his infamous Oscars slap in 2022.

At the 2022 Academy Awards, Will Smith stormed onto the stage, before proceeding to slap comedian Chris Rock in the face. This happened after Rock had joked that he would love to see Smith's wife Jada Pinkette-Smith in the next GI Jane film.

This joke referred to Pinkette Smith's baldness, having been diagnosed with alopecia in 2018.

Following this incident, Will Smith who had been nominated for best actor for his performance in King Richard, was later issued with a 10 year band from the Academy Awards by the Board of Governors for the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences. More on this from Nova here.

"Will Smith is cancelled"

On one of the singles which features in the album, Int Barbershop - Day, Will Smith collaborates with comedian and actress B Simone, as well as The Fresh Prince of Bel Air co star, DJ Jazzy Jeff.

The track sees the trio take turns saying: “Who the f*** Will Smith think he is?”and: “I ain’t never going to forgive him for that shit he did".

The lyrics also read: “I heard he won the Oscar but he had to give it back, and you know they only made him do that shit because he’s Black".

“Keep my wife’s name out of your f****** mouth", can also be heard, in reference to the words shouted by Smith to Chris Rock following their on stage spat. “Him and Jada both crazy girl, what you talkin’ bout? You better keep his wife’s name out of your mouth".

Another track on the album, You Lookin' For Me, also sees Smith make references to this controversial incident.

“Took a lot, I’m back on top, y’all (going to) have to get acclimated,” Smith raps. “Won’t stop, my shit still hot, even though I won’t get nominated".

Based On A True Story is Smith's first album since 2005's, 'Lost and Found'.
