Amazon have announced the launch of a new website dedicated to Ireland called Amazon.ie.
A brand new dedicated webpage, titled 'Brands of Ireland', will enable Irish customers to shop for a wide selection of over 200 million products with prices in euro, leading to faster deliveries and easier returns. On this page, Irish business including Barry's tea, Bewley's, and Ella & Jo among others, will be available.
'Brands of Ireland' is part of a collaboration with Enterprise Ireland, designed to help customers purchase from their favourite Irish brands, helping local business achieve greater success. Customers will also not be liable for additional custom charges, or currency conversion fees. Faster delivery and returns for many items have also been promised.
It was also confirmed that customers can join Prime on Amazon.ie for €6.99 per month to qualify for free delivery, exclusive deals, as well as shopping events like Prime Day, movies, TV shows, and live sport and free games on Prime Gaming.
In 2022, Amazon opened a new warehouse and distribution centre in Dublin, employing 500 people.
It was also confirmed that all customers could avail of Amazon.ie Prime, if they sign up for a 30 day free trial. This includes customers who switching from a UK membership.
Hailing this deal, Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said that Amazon will allow customers with more options and better value, as well as helping small, medium and large business to promote their own Irish and international products.
Speaking about this announcement, Alison Dunn, Ireland County Manager at Amazon, has said that this store will provide a wide selection of great products with faster delivery to customers in Ireland. This will provide a local Prime membership with benefits and savings, and will bring plenty of opportunities for Irish businesses to reach more customers.
Dunn said, "We have been building towards this moment since the launch of our Fulfilment Centre in Dublin in 2022, and we can't wait to write the next chapter of our story in Ireland".
Elsewhere, Peter Burke, Minister for Enterprise, Tourism, and Employment has said that the store will enable customers in Ireland to enjoy a better experience of online purchasing on their site, as well as providing a platform for Irish SMEs to expand their online presence, and growing their business.
Mr Burke said: "Amazon.ie provides even more opportunities for Irish businesses to reach global markets and help create domestic jobs. Amazon is a significant contributor to the Irish economy and today’s announcement strongly underscores Amazon’s continued commitment to Ireland,".
Amazon currently employs approximately 6,500 people in Cork, Dublin and Drogheda.
