The Taoiseach is due to officially call the general election today.

The countdown to Ireland’s general election is due to officially officially begin.

Taoiseach Simon Harris set to finish the current coalition Government, with a request to the President to dissolve the Dail, ending months of speculation.

Following a meeting in Budapest, Harris is returning to Dublin to address the nation at around lunchtime, setting the stage for an intense three-week campaign season.

He will then heading to Áras an Uachtaráin, and then is expected to kick off his election trail immediately, visiting constituencies around Dublin.

Political parties have already begun unveiling their priorities, with Labour leading the charge on housing reform.

Their newly announced policy promises a state-led construction initiative funded by the Apple tax windfall, targeting an annual output of 50,000 to 60,000 homes.

As the campaign begins, housing, healthcare, and cost-of-living issues are expected to take centre stage as parties vie for voter support ahead of polling day on November 29th.
