The pictures were posted by the republican candidate to his social media platform Truth Social with the caption “I accept!”
Among the images posted, was a mock World War II poster with Taylor Swift posing as Uncle Sam behind the caption “Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump.”
Hany Farid a digital forensics expert at the University of California said the poster was clearly “AI generated or just classically manipulated,"
Another photo showed Taylor Swift fans wearing t-shirts with the slogan “Swifties for Trump” on them, an image which shows "tell-tale signs of being AI generated." according to Mr. Farid.
What makes Mr Trump's post "particularly devious" is that it included a combination of real and doctored images, he added.
NBC News have confirmed that at least two of the images feature real women who support Trump while others depict AI generated people.
Taylor Swift has not backed a particular candidate for the 2024 election, but did speak out in opposition of Trump during the 2020 election.
In a post made to X in 2020, the pop singer wrote "After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? We will vote you out in November."
The images Mr Trump shared had been originally posted to X by pro-trump accounts. One such account had also posted multiple guides to using generative AI tools on its Substack blog.
"There is no Swifties For Trump movement - but there should be," acknowledged one of the accounts.
On the other hand, when asked to comment on the fake images, Trump’s campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung told Reuters that "Swifties for Trump is a massive movement that grows bigger every single day."
Swift's endorsement is highly coveted due to her large audience of predominantly young women. The ‘Shake it off’ singer pushed for fans to register to vote last autumn directing them to Vote.org.
Following the message, the nonpartisan non-profit organisation recorded over 35,000 new registrations, 23% more since the previous year and the most since 2020.
