Donald Trump has officially returned to the White House as the 47th President of the United States.
The inauguration completes a political resurgence after a tumultuous period marked by legal battles and controversy.
Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath of office to Trump, while Vice President JD Vance was sworn in by Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
In his inaugural address, Trump said, “The golden age of America begins right now,” showing an ambitious agenda to reshape the nation’s policies and priorities. Among his first actions, he intends to end birthright citizenship and declare a national emergency at the southern border.
“We will tariff and tax foreign countries to enrich our citizens,” Trump announced, unveiling plans for a new government entity, the External Revenue Service, which will oversee tariffs, duties, and other revenue collections.
Trump’s speech also revealed broader aspirations, including a rebranding of the Gulf of Mexico. “We will change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America,” he said, stressing his administration’s nationalist agenda.
On the frontier of space exploration, Trump promised to make the United States a leader in extraterrestrial endeavours. “We will pursue our manifest destiny into the stars, launching American astronauts to plant the Stars and Stripes on the planet Mars,” he said.
The new administration has also hinted at the possibility of granting pardons to some individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol riot, a move that is likely to deepen political tensions across the country.
As Trump begins his second term, his sweeping proposals and provocative rhetoric set the stage for a presidency poised to redefine America’s trajectory.
