The report also revealed that one driver was arrested seven times, underscoring the growing problem of repeat DUI offenders.
In total, 265 drivers were arrested multiple times for intoxicated driving.
Professor Denis Cusack, the Bureau’s Director, emphasised the need for stronger legal measures to address high-risk offenders.
The report highlighted that two drivers were arrested five times, six were arrested four times, and 22 were arrested three times last year.
The Bureau received 5,464 blood and urine samples for alcohol analysis in 2023, reflecting a continued high rate of testing.
This comes as road fatalities remain a critical issue, with 132 deaths so far this year, following 184 deaths in 2023.
