Construction has begun on the biggest social housing development in the country, as the Land Development Agency (LDA) moves forward with a major project in Baldoyle, north Dublin.

The agency has acquired an 18-hectare site with planning permission for 1,931 homes, adding to its existing Clongriffin landholding. This expansion means the LDA now has the potential to deliver more than 4,000 affordable homes near Clongriffin train station.

The Baldoyle site will feature new parks, transport links, creche facilities, commercial units, and permanent access to the train station, ensuring essential infrastructure for the growing community. Located east of Clongriffin station, the site is surrounded by Stapolin and Baldoyle and offers stunning views of Ireland’s Eye, Howth, and the Irish Sea.

In Clongriffin, work has already begun on a first phase of 408 homes, set to rise in two apartment blocks. The wider Clongriffin project has the potential to provide over 2,000 homes, further boosting housing supply in the area.

LDA Chief Executive John Coleman described the land acquisition as a major strategic step in tackling Ireland’s housing crisis. He emphasized that the agency is working closely with Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council, and local stakeholders to ensure a well-integrated and cohesive development.
