A criminal solicitor, who was once among the highest earners in his field, has been handed a prison sentence of twenty-seven months for stealing 400 euro from a client.
Cahir O’Higgins, of Cahir O’Higgins and Company, is currently serving a sentence for breaking another solicitor’s nose following a campaign of harassment.
Earlier this year, Cahir O’Higgins admitted assaulting fellow solicitor, Stephen O’Mahony, by shoving him up against a parked car and punching him in the face.
O’Higgins became convinced that his former employee was poaching clients from him, and began harassing and intimidating him over a prolonged period.
Over the summer, he was handed a sixteen-month jail term, but was given time to shut down his legal practice before his sentence was activated a few months ago.
Subsequent to that, he stood trial for stealing €400 from a client, and charges of perverting the course of justice.
He was found guilty on all charges, and was today handed a 27-month prison sentence, which will run alongside his sentence for assault.
At the height of his career, Cahir O’Higgins was one of the country’s top earners on the State’s criminal legal aid scheme.
