The two people killed in a hit-and-run in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 yesterday evening have been named locally as married couple Anthony Hogg and Georgina Hogg-Moore.
Anthony (40) and his wife Georgina (39) were struck by a car while crossing a road near Blanchardstown Shopping Centre at around 5.45pm yesterday.
The driver of the car failed to remain at the scene.
Georgina was pronounced dead at the scene while her husband Anthony was rushed to hospital, where he died overnight.
Investigating Gardaí arrested a man, aged in his 40s, in connection with the incident yesterday evening.
He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Dublin.
A technical examination of the scene has been completed by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road has been reopened.
Gardaí continue to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users or pedestrians who were in the vicinity of Blanchardstown Road North, between 5pm and 6pm on Thursday, 26th December 2024, and have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
