The row over independents’ speaking time in the Dáil, and Michael Lowry's involvement with the Government, looks set to be ramped up again this week, with tensions likely to spill over in Leinster House.

A new Sunday Independent/Ireland Thinks poll reveals that a majority of the public supports the opposition’s position in the dispute, adding further pressure on the Government.

Discontent is also growing among Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael supporters, with 53% disapproving of their parties’ deal with the controversial Tipperary TD.

Only 41% of Fianna Fáil voters back the Government’s stance, while 18% remain unsure.

Public opposition to Lowry’s role has increased, with disapproval climbing to 66%, a three-point increase from last month’s survey.

Within Fine Gael, over a third of supporters also side with the opposition in the row, and among Independent voters, 64% back the opposition's call for a fairer allocation of speaking time.

With the debate set to reignite in the Dáil on Wednesday, an opposition TD has warned of “huge conflict” ahead, suggesting the controversy is far from over.
