A 38-year-old man accused of attacking his grandmother and dragging her down a flight of stairs in a Cork home has been remanded in custody after Gardaí objected to bail.
Brian Nnamdi Ogbo, of Garrydhu Drive, Kilmoney Road, Carrigaline, appeared before Cork District Court this afternoon, facing charges in connection with the incident.
The court heard that Gardaí were alerted when Ogbo’s mother made a 999 call on Sunday, reporting that her son was assaulting both her and her elderly mother.
Detective Tom Delaney told the court that Ogbo, who is said to suffer from schizophrenia, allegedly brandished a knife during the altercation. He is accused of breaking into the bathroom before dragging his 82-year-old grandmother, Stella Nnamdi, down the stairs.
Ms. Nnamdi was taken to Cork University Hospital but died from her injuries on Tuesday.
The prosecution argued that Ogbo, originally from Nigeria and alleged to have entered Ireland using false documents, poses a flight risk.
Judge Mary Dorgan denied bail and remanded him in custody, with the case set to return via video link on March 6th.
