A final completion date has been agreed for the National Childrens Hospital

A new completion date of June has been set for the National Children’s Hospital, according to The Irish Times, marking a significant development after years of setbacks and cost overruns.

Originally budgeted at €987 million, the project’s price tag has soared to €2.2 billion, making it the most expensive hospital in the world.

The hospital is also five years behind schedule, with this being the first agreed completion date in four years.

The announcement comes after repeated delays and public frustration over the spiralling costs and missed deadlines.

While the new timeline offers hope, questions remain over how such delays were allowed to persist and what lessons can be learned for future infrastructure projects.

It is hoped that the hospital can open the doors for it's first patients in January 2026, with both the contractor BAM and Childrens Health Ireland accelerating plans towards the completion.
