Taoiseach Micheál Martin's new Cabinet are meeting, where the fallout from Storm Éowyn being discussed as 18,000 people remain without power almost two weeks since the storm hit.

The Cabinet is discussing how to better prepare Ireland for future bad weather, following the fallout from Storm Eowyn.

Around 18 thousand homes, farms and businesses are still without power almost two weeks on.

The Government's been criticised for its response to the storm.

Tánaiste Simon Harris is bringing two proposals to the Cabinet table, aimed at improving Ireland's ability to withstand future trade shocks.

Normal parliamentary business is then expected to resume at Dáil Eireann this afternoon as the row over speaking time appears to be resolved.

Sinn Féin will move a motion calling on the Government to pass the Occupied Territories Bill without delay.

Micheal Martin says the focus will be on how to improve the energy grid ''What the evidence is showing is that storms are far more severe and are becoming more severe and also the frequency of such severe storms is now without question. And therefore we have to do a fundamental reevaluation of the grid for example in terms of resilience, also in terms of backup for the water system in terms of a minimum backup generators, also then investing in local networks.''
