While he accepts that each country is entitled to their own policy on migration, he will not allow the polices of others to "affect the integrity of our own one".

Mr Harris said, "This country will not in any way shape or form provide a loophole for anybody else's migration challenges".

This comes after it was reported that 80% of recent asylum seekers who have arrived in Ireland came from the UK via Northern Ireland's land border.

Mr Harris has added that the Government is determined to implement a firm, rules-based system, which is enforced and seen to be enforced.

Over the weekend, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak claimed that this shows that the government's so-called Rwanda policy is working as a deterrent. This policy sees asylum seekers arriving in the UK of deterring others from crossing the English Channel to England from Europe on small boats.

Elsewhere, a planned meeting between Justice Minister Helen McEntee and UK Home Secretary Justin Cleverly has been postponed. But the Department of Foreign Affaires have said that it will be rescheduled soon.

This comes following tensions between the two countries over the movement of migrants from the UK to Ireland.
