TikTok staff in Ireland have been left in the dark over how many jobs will be lost at the companies Dublin Headquarters.

The Communications Workers Union say staff have an idea of what departments may see cuts, but more information is needed.

3,000 staff are employed by the video sharing social media platform, and the redundancies are said to be part of a global headcount reduction.

Earlier today, the  Department of Enterprise confirmed it had received a notification of redundancy, with a potential for up to 300 jobs to go at the company.

In January last year, TikTok said that around 20 Irish-based jobs were at risk due to a restructuring of its small and medium business division, then in February, they announced plans to restructure its training and quality division which affected hundreds more Irish-based roles.

The Labour Party said they were concerned over how redundancies' would be dealt with

“We’ve already seen this approach taken by tech companies in Ireland,” TD, George Lawlor said.

“We’ve seen it at Google, Meta, Amazon, Intel and Microsoft and today, we add TikTok to the list.

“There appears to be a clear degree of uncertainty and some chaos in Ireland in the sector and it’s causing immense uncertainty for the thousands of people who rely on this industry for a living.”
