TikTok Job Cuts Hit Dublin Office as Tech Layoffs Continue

Staff at TikTok's Dublin office face an uncertain time as the company moves to cut jobs as part of a global downsizing effort.

The social media giant, which employs around 3,000 people in Dublin, has begun informing employees of redundancies. While the exact number of Dublin-based job losses remains unclear, the cuts are part of a wider workforce reduction.

Reports say the layoffs will impact staff in the trust and safety division, which handles harmful content on the platform. Many of TikTok’s Irish employees work in content moderation, raising concerns that the local operation could be significantly affected.

Under Irish employment law, companies must notify the Department of Enterprise if 30 or more employees are being made redundant. However, the department confirmed it has not received any such notification from TikTok.

The cuts come amid a broader wave of tech industry layoffs. Social media rivals Meta and X have also trimmed their workforces in recent months, reflecting ongoing shifts in the sector.

This is not the first round of layoffs at TikTok. In July 2024, the company reduced staff numbers in its advertising quality division, while global job losses were also reported last October.

As uncertainty looms over TikTok’s Dublin workforce, employees now face anxious weeks ahead, waiting to see the full impact of the latest cuts.
