A red wind warning has been issued for six counties as storm Darragh is set to bring severe conditions to parts of the country tonight.

Mayo, Clare, Galway, Donegal, Leitrim, and Sligo are under the highest alert level from this evening until the early hours of tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will face an orange wind warning during the same period, with strong gusts expected to cause widespread disruption.

A status yellow rain warning is also in effect for several counties, bringing the risk of localized flooding.

Motorists are being urged to take extreme care on the roads.

The Road Safety Authority has warned of dangerous conditions, including fallen trees, debris, and potential power outages caused by downed lines.

Drivers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel where possible and to remain vigilant if out on the roads.

The National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management convened a meeting this morning to prepare for the incoming storm and will meet again this afternoon to coordinate the response.

Emergency services remain on high alert, and authorities are advising the public to secure loose items, stay indoors where possible, and follow updates from Met Éireann and local officials.
