Music Week published a report stating that Q4 have seen a fifteen per cent increase in CD sales year on year in the UK.
Retail stores being open and not being limited by Covid lockdowns and restrictions like last year has helped, but the real driving force behind these huge increase in CD sales has been largely been inspired by the album releases of artists Ed Sheeran, Adele and ABBA.
ABBA's "Voyage" album sales across multiple editions were almost five times greater than vinyl sales. Their album did achieve 204,000 chart sales in the first seven days of sale last month.
Ed Sheeran's latest album "=" saw 139,107 sales which included 78,263 CD sales.
Adele's album "30" which hit number one on November 26, reached 158,772 sales in CD format in just seven days. Adele's sales saw the CD market reach 520,380 sales, which saw a year on year increase of 41.3%.
