Adolescence co-creator Jack Thorne's next project will see Keeley Hawes star in a new romantic comedy drama, about a nun who falls in love with a priest.
The project will centre around Hawes' character, Sister Anna who falls for Catholic priest David, who is played by The Lazarus Project star, Paapa Essiedu. This drama is filming in Wales and Bristol, following two lovers, who are also devoted to the church and its community, but are "forced to wrestle with what it means for them, their vows and their relationship with God".
It will also feature actors Jason Watkins, Niamh Cusack, Adrian Scarborough, Susan Brown, and Sandra Voe.
"I never thought I'd write a love story, but I am very excited to be making one with the brilliant (director) Peter Hoar", Jack Thorne said of the project. "We feel so lucky we have persuaded the mighty (and lovely) Keeley Hawes, the brilliant (and also lovely) Paapa Essiedu and the most amazing company of (lovely) actors to come make this with us".
Along with starring alongside Paapa Essiedu, Keeley Hawes said she is excited to "bring Jack Thorne's beautiful scripts to life".
"I’m thrilled to be taking on the role of Anna and so looking forward to working alongside the brilliant Paapa Essiedu to bring Jack Thorne’s beautiful scripts to life", she said.
Paapa Essiedu added: "Falling is a story that has Jack Thorne’s singular talent of mining the sublime out of the ordinary running all the way through. I can’t wait to work with Keeley, Peter and the rest of the team to bring this world to life".
Jack Thorne will also serve as executive producer on the six part drama, alongside George Fabar and George Osmond.
Jack Thorne is renowned for his work on Netflix hit, Adolescence, which was centred around a 13 year old boy, Jamie, played by Owen Cooper, who is arrested for murdering his classmate, Katie, starring Stephen Graham.
Last month, it was announced that Adolescence was to be show across all UK secondary schools. Find out more here.
