Armstrong confirmed that Succession would end after this current season last month, despite HBO boss Casey Bhoys insisting that they would "would taken more seasons".

“I would have taken more, but generally speaking, that is the kind of thing you want to leave to a creator", Bhoys said in a recent interview, adding that comedy-drama coming to an end was entirely down to Armstrong and her creative vision.

“When a show is doing well, in this case, Jesse felt it was the right ending", Bhoys explained.  “He knew there is an open door, and if he felt it, he could have done more".

Bhoys had even hinted that the network was hopeful that the show would run for at least two more seasons.

“But, that’s an ideal situation; that he’s choosing to end on his terms when he wants, telling the story he wants. But, if he said, ‘I’ve got two more seasons,’ I would have said, ‘Okay, good".

That was the end.” I wouldn’t like that in a show. I think I would like to know it is coming to an end", Armstrong had previously said during an interview.

“Who knows about the psychological reasons, but the creative ones were that it felt really useful to not make the final, final decision for ages. You know, there’s a promise in the title of Succession. I’ve never thought this could go on forever", she added.

“The end has always been kind of present in my mind. From Season 2, I’ve been trying to think: Is it the next one, or the one after that, or is it the one after that?”,
