The actor was renowned for his role as Sergeant Frank Gilroy in the Australian soap A Country Practice. Starting in 1981, the actor enjoyed this role for 12 years, which saw him win a TV Week Silver Logie for Best Actor.
It had been reported that Wenzel has spent that last two years in a nursing home, after being diagnosed with dementia, according to his wife Linda. The couple were married for almost 70 years,.

Wenzel's close friend Craig Burnett also added, "He enjoyed one heck of a career, was one of the nicest people, loved his fans and appreciated the fact that he was so loved".
Brian Wenzel whose final role saw him play a judge in John Doe: Vigalante, also featured in the Aussie soap Neighbours.
