The Queen Bey performed the track live from a public tennis court in Compton, the setting for “King Richard” and where tennis pros Venus and Serena Williams got their start. Beyoncé was joined on the court by dozens of back-up dancers and musicians.
“Be Alive” was co-written by Beyoncé and Dixson and celebrates the importance of family and community, but also of Black excellence.
“Couldn’t wipe this Black off if I tried,” Beyoncé sang.“This is hustle personified.”
“Be Alive” was Beyoncé’s first Oscar nomination. She was nominated alongside Billie Eilish’s victorious “No Time To Die” from the James Bond film of the same name, “Somehow You Do,” from “Four Good Days”, “Dos Oruguitas” from “Encanto”, and “Down To Joy” from “Belfast”.
